The current version has only been tested under Linux and OS X, but it should be able to be built without too much trouble on any reasonably modern BSD as well. O If anyone wants to fix the free drivers, lxdream specifically requires a working implementation of either the EXT_framebuffer_object or GLX_SGIX_pbuffer extensions.

* Current (2008 or later) ATI or NVidia binary OpenGL drivers * Audio quality generally ranges from poor to horrible, interrupted by the occasional bit of fair-to-middling sound. In some cases this can be worked around by adjusting the CPU scaling factor (-m command line option) This cause some programs to have timing problems or to break completely. * The SH4 emulation is not cycle accurate, and (by default) usually runs slower than the real one. * Rendering performance ranges from barely acceptable to abominable. * MMU address translation (eg linux, wince, etc) is painfully slow to the point of unusability. * Graphic artifacts related to translucent triangle intersections, sorting errors and/of lack of depth precision. The following are known problems in 0.9 that will be fixed in the next major release - in other words, you don´t need to report them - we already know :)

* OSX: fullscreen support, minor UI improvements * Lots of core performance improvements, especially with the MMU turned on You´re unlikely to see ´perfect´ emulation, and we´re nowhere near being bug-compatible (in other words, don´t expect your code to work on the real hardware just because it runs correctly in lxdream). Nevertheless this should still be considered an alpha release, with many unimplemented features remaining. As for 0.9, the majority of software can be expected to "just work" with minimal problems. Lxdream 0.9.1 is mostly a performance release (core emulation is a good 33-50% faster, although rendering performance is still bad), with a few new features like VMU and LIRC support. * Audio + input drivers are now built as plugins * Now uses the ~/.lxdream directory (by default) to store runtime data * Lots of core performance improvements, especially in the MMU That said, there are still a few iOS emulators that you can use for both testing new apps and running iPhone apps on your Windows or Mac computer. Apple is very stringent about emulation and always blocks and kills such apps. Next version we’ll try and attack the rendering performance problem… There are not many iOS emulators out there.

There’s also (finally) preliminary VMU support for anyone who cares about that - you can attach them in the controller settings panel.Īs always, it’s available from the download page, release notes are here. It is somewhat faster than 0.9, the core is around 30-40% faster, and MMU performance is nearly an order of magnitude better, but rendering performance is still holding things back overall.

While nullDC can patch the IP.BIN on-the-fly (in RAM, it doesn't write to your disc images or anything) to have the JUE flags so you can run a game on any region BIOS/flash, some games with region enforcement will check the video output setting or region in the flash manually, and they will kick back to the BIOS. Note that one BIOS/flash might not be enough for you because of region restrictions.

Nathan Keynes is doing a great job on it and it's the emulator I'm following most closely, because Nathan is very interactive with the community, and he has been working hard on OS X support at the request of a small few (and duh, I'm a Machead).
#USE THE LXDREAM EMULATOR ON MAC MAC OS#
If you're stuck on Linux or Mac OS X, try out lxdream, which is blossoming quite nicely. Not to disrespect Chanka, but I would highly recommend against Chankast, because everything that works in Chankast should work in nullDC with the Chankast plugins (included with nullDC). While it is still in heavy development (and many features are buggy or unimplemented), it is capable of running most demos and some games. Chankast (also Windows only) is what everyone used to use before nullDC, but it's outdated now, and doesn't except any type of file input, only input from a physical CD-ROM drive (unless you use a program to mount an image to a virtual drive), and as such, it doesn't support GDI files. Lxdream is an emulator for the Sega Dreamcast system, running on Linux and OS X. NullDC was the first emulator to support the GDI file format (its developers actually made the format) and is the best DC emulator right now (Windows only, its developer hates Linux). Ideally, you will have a GD-ROM dump ("GDI") but old classical warez-style rips work as well, just they're ripped/hacked up/lower quality/not the original game disc. Besides the BIOS, you will obviously need a game.
